To help you assess if any items on your motorcycle may be un-roadworthy, we've compiled this list of the most common issues we come across when conducting roadworthy inspections.
This is a guide only, we are unable to assess any items through photographs or your description over the phone. The best way to find out if your bike is in roadworthy condition is to book it in for a roadworthy inspection.

Exhausts

Motorcycles must meet the same noise and emission requirements they were manufactured with. All motorcycles fitted with a catalytic converter from the factory are required to have one fitted for a RWC inspection.

Lighting

All signal and running lighting must be in working order. Turn signals must flash amber at a rate between 60-120 times per minute, they can not be flush mounted or integrated into the tail light.
All lighting must be the same type and colour as was fitted in the factory. For example, headlights fitted with halogen globes may not be replaced with HID or LED globes.

Licence Plate Fitting and Illumination

Licence plates need to be easily visible and licence plate brackets must be fitted with a red reflector.
Licence plates must be fitted with a clear coloured light to illuminate them. Lighting must illuminate the licence plate, not shine past it. A tail light is not sufficient licence plate lighting, unless it has a clear lens fitted to allow for this.
Rear Fenders or mudguards must cover to the back of the rear tyre.

Tyres

Tyres need to be dot approved and not cracked or splitting. Tyres can not have tyre shine on them. Professionally repaired punctures are acceptable, however temporary repairs with rope type plugs are not roadworthy.
Valve stems should not be cracked or perishing.

Chrome Parts

The processed used to chrome parts can leave some alloys structurally compromised. For this reason, any alloys that have been chromed are un-roadworthy. The exception to this rule being any parts that have come out chrome from the factory.

Handlebars and Risers

Handle Bar movement must not be obstructed by any part of the motorcycle Eg. Fuel tank, fairings, screen, control cables, wiring. Handlebar risers need to be verified for strength and suitability from the manufacturer's part number. If not part number can be found a VASS inspection will be required to verify this.
